Love > Fear—Part One
Why God’s Love Is Bigger Than Hell
Afraid of hell? You’re not alone—but fear isn’t the foundation of faith. Discover how God’s love casts out fear and why salvation is simpler than you think.

The thought of hell can be a scary thing. But today, I’m here to settle your fears. God is love, and perfect love casts out all fear. Let’s take a deeper look at what this means…

Many people struggle with the fear of hell, unsure of where they stand with God, wondering if they’ve done enough to be saved. Maybe you’ve felt this fear too—afraid of what might come next, or worried about separation from God forever.

We’ve all heard the pictures painted about hell—the eternal torment, the “Lake of Fire” (Revelation 20:14), and the complete darkness. But the worst part is knowing you had every opportunity to believe and repent, and yet you didn’t. It’s terrifying, I get it.

But here’s the thing: fear should never be our motivation for faith. Jesus didn’t intend for us to live in fear. His invitation is about freedom from fear, not living in it. In fact, fear clouds our understanding of God’s love.

When Jesus spoke of hell, it wasn’t to frighten us, but to highlight the separation we face when we choose to live outside His will. Jesus wants us to understand our need for Him and the love that rescues us, not to be afraid of hell.

Salvation is simple! It’s not about avoiding hell, or trying to be perfect. In Romans 10:9, the Bible tells us that if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. It’s that simple. Salvation is a gift, not something we can earn—it’s about what Jesus has already done.

The fear of hell is real, but the love of God is even greater. 1 John 4:18 tells us, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” Jesus came not to make us afraid, but to restore our relationship with God and bring us into His perfect love. When you truly understand God’s love for you, fear loses its grip.

There’s still so much to explore about God’s love and salvation, and I’ll dive deeper into this in Part 2 next week.
